Recap: Kids Yoga Festival

Last Saturday, May 18, 2013, Yoga Phoenix hosted a Kids Yoga Festival. There were many enthusiastic participants. We were thrilled to see so many kids and their parents having fun together at the festival!

We started the event with Beanie Baby Breathing Exercise, Beanie Baby Warm Ups, and Yoga Adventure. The teacher was Kewal Kaur who teaches Kids Yoga here at Yoga Phoenix every Saturday morning. Kewal Kaur has many years of experience with teaching kids yoga. Her gentle and kind demeanor always puts kids at ease which helps kids to learn and have a great time in class.

After the first yoga session, kids and parents had the opportunity to hangout on our covered patio while enjoying some healthy snacks. Kids also took the time to check out our craft booths and made some fun items like flower pen, little wax sculpture, yarn pom-pom, and portable meditation rock garden.

Then we moved on to more fun yoga activities! This time Jaap Kaur, also a very experienced Kundalini Yoga teacher, led the kids with activities like Yoga Countryside Bicycle Tour, Train Tunnel and Roller Coaster Ride. At the end of the session, Jaap Kaur played the gong for the little yogis and parents.

The rest of the festival was filled with more fun and activities. Many parents were surprised to see how different Kundalini Yoga is, but at the same time were pleased to see how our teachers engaged the kids with interesting exercises and activities.

Thank you so much dear parents and kids for attending our Kids Yoga Festival! It was our pleasure to be able to share the amazing experience and benefits of Kundalini Yoga with you all! We hope to see you all here again at Yoga Phoenix!

What to Expect at the Kids Yoga Festival

Yoga Phoenix is proud to be hosting a Kids Yoga Festival: Kids Shining Their Beacons of Light this Saturday, May 18, 2013. There are so many benefits that children could gain from doing Kundalini Yoga (follow this link to read about the benefits) and this festival is a perfect opportunity for parents and kids who have never done Kundalini Yoga before to come and get a taste of what a kids yoga class is like.

So what should parents and kids expect at the Kids Yoga Festival? Lots of fun activities! Here are some yogic exercises and activities that we are offering this coming Saturday:

- Countryside Yoga Bicycle Tour: Go on an imaginary bicycle tour through the countryside where kids will encounter many farm animals. Expect to get into yoga poses that imitate all kinds of animals.

- Yoga Train Tunnel and Gong: In this exercise kids will line up in Triangle pose to form the tunnel and then take turns to crawl through the tunnel. They will get into Triangle pose again once out of the other end of the tunnel. After a vigorous workout, kids get to lie down and relax to the sound of the gong.

- Beanie Babies Belly Breathing: A fun way to learn how to breath long and deep through the belly using cute and cuddly Beanie Babies. Long deep breathing is a great technique that every kid should learn because it can help to lower stress, manage emotions and help the body to heal.

- Peaceful Piggy Meditation Story Time: Come listen to a story book about finding the peace within through meditation. After story time, participants can choose to craft their own portable meditation rock garden.

- Sacred Space Crafting: Create a portable meditation rock garden to remind you to go inside your self to find peace. This activity also combines crafting and meditation in one. We will chant for peace while creating this rock garden.

- Mommy and Me: Parents will learn some yogic exercises that they can do with their little ones at home! It is fun for parents and children to exercise together, it also helps to build closeness in their relationship.

- Crafts: We will have some fun time crafting with yarn, beeswax, and many more!

Please join us for this family fun event this Saturday, May 18, from 10:00am to 12:30pm. Each activity is $1, or $5 for ALL of them. No entry fee! We look forward to see many shining happy faces, and we will be happy to answer all the questions you have about kids yoga!

Give Your Chidren The Gift of Kundalini Yoga

Sometimes the world just seems like a scary place. We are constantly bombarded by news report on shootings, wars, and natural disaster, and sometimes it is hard to keep this information from affecting our children. In addition to that, our children also experience stress from school, tests, friends, and even at home! What can we adults do to help our children to understand that the world isn’t a dark and scary place?

You teach them that there’s still light, goodness and hope in this world, they just have to look inside themselves.  Teach your kids to reach inside themselves to find the light and calmness that is the answer to the chaos in the world. Teach them how to breathe properly to reduce stress. Teach them how to meditate to remain steady in a world that’s constantly changing at an insanely fast pace. Let your children do Kundalini Yoga.

There are so many good reasons why you should let your kids do Kundalini Yoga:

-    Kundalini Yoga can help a child to build strength and stamina.

-    Kundalini Yoga increases one’s flexibility.

-    Kundalini Yoga teaches them how to handle stress the natural way (through breath, yogic exercises and meditation) instead of relying on food, toys, video games…etc to feel better.

-    Kundalini Yoga can build a child's confidence.

-    Kundalini Yoga can enhance brain function and improves memory.

-    And most of all, Kundalini Yoga teaches kids to be the light that is inside themselves and SHINE!

Children are the hope for the future. Dear parents, please help your children to be the light, give them the gift of Kundalini Yoga!
